Dorothy Horan, Best Known as Dovima, with Elefants(1955): Richard Avadon
Richard was first well known for fashion photography. Later he was well known for taking photographs and capturing the essence of the subject. His photos have white backgrounds and are well lit with no extra props. He took photos of everyday people such as farmers and miners.
I like this photograph because it is very simple. You don't see elephants in everyday life so it is cool to see this woman interacting with them.
Eugene Smith New York NY(1977): Arnold Newman
Arnold took abstract and documentary photos. He developed a new kind of portrait photography and has been very influential today. He was featured in many places such as museums and magazines.
I like this photo because it is also very simple. It captures everyday life. It also is very focused on the man and he is making eye contact with the camera which I think adds to the photographs all around simplicity.
Cate Blanchett(2004): Annie Leibovitz
Annie has focused on high end fashion and Hollywood portraits. She is known for her photos in fashion magazines. Annie took photos of famous people. Almost all of her photographs are posed.
I really like this picture because the actress looks like she is making eye contact with the photo. Also it looks like it was from the late 1900s because of the bike and clothing giving it a more interesting look. Also Annie gave the rider room to keep going which make the photo more interesting. Overall I really like this photograph.
